Living in Indonesia, I often hear friends from Taiwan say, ‘I really want to go, but I can’t get the time off.’
I’ve realized the issue isn’t usually about whether you can go—it’s about not planning your leave right. You browse flights endlessly, only to hit a wall at work, and it stings.
So this post won’t talk about attractions—just dates. I’ve lined up three key windows in 2027 worth securing. Save this first, then decide if you’re flying to Bali.

First, the Bottom Line: Three Windows
I’ve turned the year’s leave plans into three charts. Each answers one question:
- Which days to request off
- From which date to which date you can be off
- Which plans cross into the previous or next year
🧧 Chinese New Year: Take 2 Days Off, Enjoy 11 Days Off
- Days to take off: Feb 11–12
- Days off: Feb 4–14
This is the longest break of the year. With such a rare stretch of free time, I’d suggest not cramming your schedule—find a villa with a pool in Bali, sleep in until you naturally wake up, and spend afternoons lounging by the water. Bali is perfect for this kind of getaway.
📚 Teachers’ Day: Take 1 Day Off, Enjoy 4 Days Off
- Days to take off: Sep 27
- Days off: Sep 25–28
Taking just one day off means your boss is less likely to frown. Though the time is short, it’s enough to fly to Bali, clear your mind, and come back ready for work.
🎆 New Year’s Eve 2027: Take 4 Days Off, Enjoy 10 Days Off
- Days to take off: Dec 27–30, 2027
- Available Leave: 2027/12/24 – 2028/1/2
Bali is buzzing at the end of the year—beaches and restaurants everywhere are filled with New Year’s Eve vibes. If you’ve been thinking about counting down somewhere different, this stretch is worth planning ahead for.
📌 The Easiest One to Miss
If you’re aiming to welcome 2027’s New Year, pay attention here.
If you take leave from 2026/12/28 to 12/31, combined with the 2026 Constitution Day holiday, you can enjoy a break from 2026/12/25 to 2027/1/3—10 days in total.
⚠️ Key point: These 4 days of leave must be taken in 2026, not 2027. Many people only look at next year’s calendar and end up missing this window.

A Few Things to Confirm Before Planning Leave
- The above is based on Saturday and Sunday as rest days, with compensatory holidays calculated according to the government calendar.
- The ‘days off’ include your own leave—it’s not an automatic long weekend.
- For private sector and shift workers, please confirm based on applicable labor laws, employer-employee agreements, and shift schedules.
My Suggested Order

- First, lock in your dates
- Confirm your leave with the company
- Once leave is approved, book flights and accommodation
- Share the dates with family or travel buddies to discuss together
If you reverse the order, you might end up paying for flights before your leave is approved.
One Last Question for You

If you could only choose one trip, would you go for the 11 days during Chinese New Year or the 10 days over New Year’s Eve?
For me… just thinking about taking it slow during the Chinese New Year stretch already has me tempted. 🌴
