Where to buy home crafts in Bali? Three local routes that cost half the price of tourist spots!

When visiting Bali, many people want to bring home some home decor. But markets and shops around tourist spots often have higher prices. This time, I’m sharing three shopping routes that aren’t in popular tourist areas—places locals frequent. Prices are affordable, roughly half of what you’d find in tourist spots, and you can still bargain (thanks to my driver who helped me score big discounts 🥰).

Why are these three routes worth exploring?

These three roads are off the main tourist trail. Most shops are either run by artisans or serve as direct outlets for workshops. Other travelers online have noted that these shops usually start with better prices and offer more room to negotiate. It’s a more relaxed experience without the pressure of shopkeepers chasing you.

Route 1: Jl. Raya Andong, Ubud

Location: About a 15-minute drive from Ubud Palace Google Maps street name: Jl. Raya Andong

This road is known as the ‘handicraft highway,’ lined with unique little shops that feel like a treasure hunt. Here’s what I found:

• Stone figures
• Woven lamps
• Chairs
• Bags
• Bamboo baskets
• Shell lamps

Storage baskets, trays, and placemats made from bamboo and rattan are great to take home, bringing a vacation vibe to your space. When you’re tired from shopping, there are also some coffee shops along the street to rest.

Route 2: Seminyak Jl. Gn. Athena

Location: About a 15-minute drive from Seminyak Shopping Square Google Maps road name: Jl. Gn. Athena

The shops here are even more upgraded, making it feel like browsing a home decor showroom, but prices are still very affordable! This street features many stores selling furniture, antique-style decorations, and wood carvings. If you love tasteful home decor, this is a must-visit.

Route 3: Canggu Jalan Raya Canggu

Location: Main road in Canggu, close to several surf cafés and curated shops

Google Maps street name: Jalan Raya Canggu

• If your itinerary includes Canggu, this road is well worth a leisurely stroll. Jalan Raya Canggu is lined with home decor and craft shops, leaning toward a modern, minimalist style—quite different from the traditional artisan vibe in Ubud or Seminyak. It’s ideal for those who love Nordic or Instagram-worthy interiors. Common finds include:
• Rattan lampshades and pendant lights
• Ceramic ornaments and vases
• Natural fiber floor mats

Handmade candles and scented accessories

Most shops here focus on curated selections, with a consistent, easy-to-match aesthetic that saves you time comparing prices. If you’re mainly staying around Canggu and don’t want to make a special trip to Ubud or Seminyak, this route makes a great backup plan.

1. Make good use of Google Maps: Simply enter the street names above to find them. Both streets don’t have specific landmarks, so you can take your time strolling along them.
2. Politely negotiate prices: Compare prices at several shops and communicate politely—there’s usually room for bargaining.
3. Ask your driver for help: A driver who speaks the local language is your best ally, and their bargaining skills can be surprisingly effective.
4. Leave room in your luggage: Items like lamps and rattan goods take up a fair amount of space, so it’s wise to reserve space or ask about packaging options in advance.
